Azure Front Door outage took down Microsoft 365 and third-party sites

On 29 October an invalid tenant configuration propagated globally across Azure Front Door, overwrote the last-known-good snapshot, and crashed the data plane after passing rollout health checks. Microsoft halted customer config changes, ran a recovery that took about 4.5 hours, and kept changes frozen until 5 November while it added safeguards. Outlook, Teams, Intune, Power Apps and many third-party sites saw DNS failures, timeouts and 5xx errors. It was the second Front Door incident that month.

Cloudflare's Q3 report shows short-burst DDoS is the new normal

Cloudflare mitigated 18.2 million network-layer DDoS attacks in the third quarter, up 38 percent year over year, and blocked 14.4 trillion HTTP DDoS requests. Short-burst attacks under 10 minutes and under 1 Gbps rose 208 percent. Cloudflare attributes the growth to booter and stresser-for-hire services.

October 19, 2026 · The largest Patch Tuesday ever, and fridges set on fire

A cyberattack cooked, then melted, supermarket fridges in France

On the night of 11 October attackers set refrigeration controllers at up to about 700 French supermarkets into defrost mode overnight. Some units reached well over 50 degrees Celsius, with equipment melting, fires and sprinkler water damage, and similar incidents hit stores elsewhere in Europe. Reporting attributed the targeting to networked refrigeration control systems; no group claimed responsibility.

GitHub's September report traced two incidents to routine changes

GitHub's availability report described a 13 September incident where a background data-cleanup job overwhelmed a shared primary database, failing most web issue-creation and signup requests for about an hour and a half, and a 28 September Copilot code-review incident where incomplete results meant reviews never posted.

October 5, 2026 · Three exploited edge bugs, and an app crash the status page missed

A Firebase SDK crashed apps while the status page stayed green

On 28 September a routine Firebase config cleanup pushed a payload that the Google Analytics for Firebase iOS SDK failed to validate, crashing apps using the SDK on launch. Per the postmortem, per-app crash duration ranged from two to six hours. Firebase status dashboards stayed green throughout because they track server-side health, not client-side SDK crashes, and Google committed to representing SDK outages on its dashboards.
